It might just be the harmonic knob that's unstable, or it could be FM8 or FM synthesis in general that is really fragile and delicate. So if you guys are thinking about getting into FM synthesis and are using FM8, I would highly suggest you do the same. But this time, I had some audio clips to choose from and work with. Lo and behold, after a while, the same thing happened. So I kept bouncing it to audio as I was working on it and refining it. Luckily, I kept working on it and tried to form it back into something good, and it magically went back to something like it was before it crapped out.
#Fm8 patch how to
I had spent hours dialing it in and adjusting the effects on it to finally get it to sound good and sit well in the mix, and then suddenly it sounds like shit and I don't know what happened or how to fix it. I reverted back to the last preset I had saved, expecting it to fix the problem, which it did not. I had a really cool glitchy thing going, then after a while, all of the sudden the timbre completely changed.
#Fm8 patch Patch
As I was doing this I was saving the instrument rack as a preset in ableton, as well as the patch within FM8. I really liked how it sounded, so I automated it to tweak out. Once I got a decent sound in the expert panel, I started messing with the "harmonic" knob in the "easy" panel. So I finally got around to sitting down with FM8 and making some bass noises.
